Cincinnati Bar Association Executive Director John C. NorwinejoinedMoore Law host and TV journalist Deb Haas and attorney co-host Don Moore to talk about “Careers in the Law.” Don noted that there are many legal professions in addition to lawyers, including paralegals, legal assistants, secretaries, court reporters, bailiffs and “a whole bevy of people that work in and around courthouses.”
In regards to aspiring attorneys, John explained that people have to go to college for four years and get their degree before going to law school for three more years. “And law school doesn’t necessarily prepare you to practice law,” John said. “You understand the law, you understand generally how to apply it, but you don’t understand the day-to-day goings on in a law office. So it’s great when you can come out of law school, have a mentor, join a firm, have somebody who can kind of help you along, because a lot of the practical aspects of it you are just not familiar with at that time.”
Questions from Moore Law viewers included Scott in Cincinnati asking if a particular law school was better than others for becoming a personal injury lawyer, and Barbara in Cincinnati wanted to know more about the field of environmental law for her son who has an interest in geology and law. Don’s son, Cincinnati
personal injury attorney Dan Moore, also answered questions submitted by viewers through the “Moore Law Connection,” including an inquiry about a workers’ compensation matter from Yancey and a question concerning bailment from Mitch.
