motorcycle accidentA Huber Heights police officer called the fatal crash in this WDTN-TV video
motorcycle accident he has seen in his 13 years on the force. The high-speed collision occurred
at the intersection of Brandt Pike and Kitridge Road on August 4, 2012.
According to WDTN, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene,
and the other driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious head
and arm injuries.
Police told WHIO-TV that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet or any
other protective gear, and witnesses said the bike may have been going
as fast as 90 miles per hour at the time of the collision. “If he’s
traveling 90 mph in a 35 zone, there is a good chance (the other driver)
would never have seen him coming,” Harlow told WHIO.
The increase in the number of motorcycles on roads throughout Ohio and
Kentucky during the summer requires all motorists to exercise additional
caution, but motorcyclists also need to ride responsibly and obey posted
speed limits. We have written before about the benefits of wearing a helmet
when riding a motorcycle, but this rider was being especially risky by
allegedly traveling at nearly three times the speed limit. We have additional
catastrophic injuries on our website.
