Types of Burn Injuries

Burns can cause immense damage to a person's skin or organ tissue and they are defined by the amount of damage it causes. Variables that affect the overall severity of the burn include the area of the burn, the person's age, if it is an airway injury and other psychosocial issues involved in the aftermath of the injury. There are four types of burn injuries:

  1. First-degree: any damage to the skin's outer layer
  2. Second-degree: any damage to the skin's outer layer, as well as the lawyer directly underneath
  3. Third-degree: any damage to the skin's deepest lawyer, as well as the tissues directly underneath
  4. Fourth-degree: not only damages the skin's surface and tissues underneath, but also the subcutaneous tissue, nerves, muscles and even the bone

Injuries from burns can occur while on the job, at home, at a public place or even while out enjoying leisurely activities. They can include some of the following causes:

  • Electrical burns
  • Inhalation burns (breathing in carbon monoxide or toxic gas)
  • Chemical burns (from household products or other serious industrial chemicals)
  • Radiation (from x-rays, the sun or radiation procedures)
  • Fire and steam
  • Road rash, abrasions and other burns from friction

The quicker that you can get medical treatment after a burn, the better chance you have of healing and preventing complications. It is also important to seek legal help if your burns were a direct result of someone else's negligent actions.

Car accidents, workplace incidents and product liability cases are all frequent reasons for horrific burn injuries. For victims, compensation may be available that may not cause recovery any faster or return them to their original quality of life, but it can at least cover medical expenses and lost wages.
