Dump Truck Crash Leaves One Man Dead

One man was killed in a crash with a sanitation truck, WSAZ-TV reported on October 5, 2011. The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that 61-year-old Sherman Stewart was driving a 1996 Lincoln on Turkey Lick Road and pulled onto Kentucky Route 67 when he struck a southbound 1984 Mack Dump Truck driven by 46-year-old Robert Williams. Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene, and Kentucky State Police said it did not appear that he was wearing a seat belt.

Seat belts prevent countless deaths and injuries every year, but they can be especially critical to a driver’s ultimate safety in truck accidents. The weight of most commercial trucks amplifies the damage possible in any collision.

Trucking companies have no control over whether other drivers on the road wear their seat belts or not, but they can be held liable for the actions of their own drivers. In a case like Mr. Stewart’s, an experienced Cincinnati truck accident attorney might investigate how fast the sanitation truck was going before the collision or if a dangerous roadway affected Stewart’s view before pulling onto Route 67. How else do you think this tragedy could have been avoided? Our Cincinnati truck accident lawyer would like to hear from you.
