When 83-year-old Gloria Howell died just six weeks after arriving for therapy on a broken wrist, a nurse told her son that the facility was “really short-handed” the day his mother fell.
“Doing a poor job and having an excuse that ‘we’re inadequately equipped,’ that’s not acceptable,” Don told FOX19. “That is negligence almost by its—almost an admission of negligence.”
While the Butler County coroner’s investigation is still open and FOX19 said a final report probably will not be issued for another four to six weeks, we hope that many families considering nursing homes for loved ones give extremely careful consideration to the facilities that they are looking at. As Don told FOX19, you can use your nose when visiting retirement communities. If the nursing home smells like old urine, it’s probably a sign that the facility does not have adequate staff to sufficiently care for your loved one.
