incinnati family lawyer Barbara J. Howard from the firm of Barbara J. Howard Co., L.P.A. joined Moore Law host and TV journalist Deb Haas and attorney co-host Don Moore to discuss “Divorce and Child Custody.” Don began by noting that Barb is a former president of the both the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cincinnati Bar Association. He also noted that Barb has been trained in collaborative law, a legal process that she explained as being “a new way of getting our clients through the divorce [or] dissolution process.”

“Our clients agree that they won’t go to court,” Barb said. “We agree that we’re going to sit around a table and figure it out.” Barb said it is not an easy process, but “it is a far better way to do it if the parties can both do it.”

Questions from Moore Law viewers included Betty in Cincinnati asking about shared parenting agreements, Charles in Mount Auburn wondering how child support payments are affected by a new spouse’s income, Jamie in Fairfield calling about how child abuse charges factor into custody, Bobbi in Taylor Mill questioning how adoption proceedings work after having permanent custody of a niece and nephew, Laurie in Blue Ash inquiring how custody is affected if the couple never married, and Richmond in Price Hill saying his former spouse was seeking child support although he has not worked in two years.
