A man received serious injuries when he rear-ended a pickup truck while riding his motorcycle. The motorcycle vs. car accident occurred at the intersection of Ohio 590 and U.S. 6 east of Helena according to a report from the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Emergency workers responded to a call from an eyewitness to the truck crash around 1:49 p.m. Paramedics, troopers and firefighters arrived on the scene.

A Life Flight helicopter transported Michael Belmares, of Bowling Green, to University of Toledo Medical Center.

The driver of the pickup truck, Eddie Riddle, was heading east on U.S. 6. He stopped to wait for vehicles to turn onto Ohio 590, according to Trooper Matt Davis.

Davis said Belmares could not stop in time and rear-ended the pickup truck. Belmares was not wearing a helmet. Davis said the motorcyclist was unconscious for the entire hour it took to get him onto the helicopter.

“We don’t know if alcohol was involved or not at this time,” Davis stated. He said the crash remains under investigation.

The incident backed up U.S. 6 for almost a mile in either direction as emergency responders treated Belmares. Investigators took measurements during this time.

The hospital has not released a status on Belmares’ condition.
