Three Vehicle Rural Car Crash in Clermont County Leaves One Dead

Early in the morning of Thursday, October 17, 2013, there was a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Hunt Road and Ohio 131 in Clermont County, Ohio. The location of the intersection is just slightly south of Stonelick State Park. Currently, the road has been closed off as police officers investigate the cause of the crash that ultimately caused the death of one individual, whose identity has not yet been released.

While many accidents happen on urban streets and highways on a daily basis, rural roads have been shown to be even more dangerous and often deadly. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) motor vehicle accidents are twice as likely to occur on rural roads as they are on urban streets. This is due to various factors including the fact that these roads are typically curvier, making it harder to see who or what is coming around the corner. In addition, with many people traveling at speeds upwards of 55mph, the possibility of an accident on the already dangerous roadways is further enhanced. When accidents do occur, victims may end up with more severe injuries or even result in a fatality because it can take much longer for emergency response teams to get to the scene of the accident. Many who are driving on these rural roads late at night may be fatigued or under the influence of alcohol as well, which can only make the chance of a collision that much more likely.
